GIVING IS AWESOME IN RED DEER | ODDS & ENDS

This past weekend, I was looking for ideas of how I would like to give back to the community for next year. I heard (via the twitter grapevine) of  “Giving is Awesome”. It’s a simple effort by photographers worldwide to give back to their own communities. Each photographer is encouraged to donate a session to a deserving person or couple.

I know you know someone that’s been affected by tragedy or someone who might have an amazing story to tell. I would love to be there to document the lives of an amazing couple that’s been through it all. It’s time to tell their story with photography and to give them the gift of art. Since I specialize in couples/wedding photography, I would like you to nominate a couple (straight or gay) that are very deserving of this donation.

This winner of this contest will receive a free lifestyle session in the Spring, with the DVD of ready to print images.

The nominator will also receive a little treat for being awesome!

The rules:

* You CANNOT nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

* The nominee must reside in Red Deer, Alberta. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

* You must e-mail me the full story : andrea@andreawiseman.com

The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve — get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

Cheers!

And because every post deserves a cute photo, here I am hanging out in a grove of trees… No big deal.

STEMS FLORAL SHOP IN RED DEER | LIFESTYLE

I just did an amazing floral shoot this week at Stems in Red Deer with Stephanie Laprairie. She is the co-owner of Stems, along with Arlene Prysunka, who opened the store two years ago. This floral shop is beautifully decorated from floor to ceiling with adorable seasonal gifts and floral decorations.

Stephanie LaPrairie and Arlene Prysunka and their team are excited to be celebrating STEMS’ second anniversary! As they welcome new clients and add fresh ideas to the flower-shop scene in Red Deer their eyes are toward exciting plans for 2010 as   Stephanie and Arlene give back with gratitude to this great supportive community by getting even more involved with organizations that are making Red Deer such a great place to live.  Central Alberta Florists retired in 2007 and STEMS purchased their telephone number and book of business.  This helped start the phones ringing in their new location in the Easthill communities, and also maintained former clients’ records and billing accounts.  Since then, Stephanie and her growing team of designers continue to provide customized service, unique gift ideas and their signature floral designs that are sure to please as demonstrated by the shop’s rising popularity. Stephanie became active in the floral industry in Red Deer in 1999 after graduating from the Commercial Floristry Program of Olds College.

If you need any ideas on Christmas gifts or if you’re interested in getting someone special a gorgeous bouquet, go check out Stems in Red Deer located at 13, 2950 22nd Street.

All these photos were shot on location using natural light only (and the odd reflector).

Here is the very talented Stephanie Laprairie. She has designed all the florals in this blog post.
